I overheard one of my kids talking about a ventriloquist, and then the word "eloquent" popped into my head. That was just begging to be developed into a cryptgram. I wasn't thinking about Winchell specifically, but how many other eloquent ventriloquists can we name?
And, hmmm, "outspoken" might be another word to describe him.
